LUCK’S LUCK
Kris Luck, owner of Quest Network Services, celebrated the “big 3-0″ yesterday by going to the game and watching the Cub’s whack the Phillies, 6-4, after Ramirez turned things around with a grand slam in the 8th inning. Go, Cubbies, go!
But back in the fifth inning, things turned for Kris, who was avidly keeping score as he has since he was a little kid. Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster slammed a line-drive foul–right into Kris’s elbow. Ooo-wee!
Kris is okay except for the imprint the stiches on the ball left on his skin. He’s just mad he didn’t catch the ball! “Some obnoxious Phillies’ fans in front of me caught it, then they finally shut up!”, Kris told me. “But it was a great game!”

ERNNIE’S BIRTHDAY

I photographed this at Rogers Beach a few weeks ago. Hope Ernnie enjoyed his second birthday! Lucky guy, with only two candles to blow out.

For those of you who forget how old a person might be, you could probably print a copy of the balloons, cross out the 2, or even turn it into a question mark!

Print a copy of Happy Birthday Ernnie and just cross out the name and write in your friend’s name. I’m sure they won’t think you’re cheap, or anything like that. They’ll just love being remembered.

See how great it looks?
Happy Birthday to my new friend, Kris Luck, the owner of Quest Network Services!

FOUR WOMEN, FOUR HOURS…HOW MUCH LONGER?
Here’s a short story of three young women I met at U-NO-HOO’s “Back-to-School” picnic. I’ll include a fourth, but I never actually met her. I’ll write about her later, if you don’t mind.
The first is Allison Weston, a Body Artist. She was air-brushing tattoos and told me she was also the coordinator, I never found out–coordinator of “what”. She sprayed colors through the stencils. tossed on some extra-fine opalescent glitter and voila! A semi-permanent (2-3 days) beauty of a tattoo, one right after the other!
This is Allison’s workbench. Contact her for corporate or private events at http://www.bodyartbyallison.com/. She’s a hard-working artist and a very nice person.
At the other end of the table, Margi Charalab, another Body Artist, had her own workspace. She is also a hard-working artist and a very nice person. You can visit Margi at her website: http://www.makingfaceschicago.com/. They were both using laser-cut stencils, which made the tattoos look as if they had been drawn with an ink-filled needle.
Here’s an example of their work.
The young woman with this tattoo told me her name was Janelle. The butterfly tattoo is quite festive, don’t you think? And looks so real!
Here’s a photo Janelle allowed me to take. I hope she doesn’t get in trouble with her boss. She might, though. The camera didn’t quite seem to pick up the essence of Janelle: her vibrancy, her future plans, the hard work she’s put in this summer as an intern. Janelle told me how much she loves politics, how much she’s learning and how she hopes to make it to Washington someday. Goals are good things to have.
Her glasses reflected something dark and shady. Her look became pensive. Was she thinking of her boss? She seemed to be looking over to where he stood. I wished Janelle well and continued on my photographic way.

This is the next young woman I saw. Some of you may even know who she is. In hushed tones, she asked the guy for something, saying how she really, really needed it. He asked her, “How much money you got?”
This gal looked strung out: her eyes were red and she was not quite “with it”.

She went off with another guy, and she yelled at me later as I passed the benches on my way back to Morse. By then she was flying, or so it seemed. Quite loud, this young woman. Maybe her braids were too tight!
Could drug dealing have been going on at the “Back-to-School” picnic, right under glad-hander Joe Moore’s nose? I ask, because I observed this woman’s rather drug-induced behavior. Joe’s top guy, David Fagus, was there, too. (I wonder what they nick-named him in high school?)
Surely, a sharp politician like Fagus would have noticed drug-dealing, wouldn’t he have? These two are on top of everything, aren’t they? They’re working to make the 49th Ward a better place, right? They’d be the first to call the cops if they saw ANYONE breaking the law, wouldn’t they?
Anyone for a hot dog? I wonder how much of the aluminum foil really got to the recycle bins.
I finally left after Joe made his memorized speech, complete with overly-rehearsed gestures. Disco is dead, Joe, in case you forgot!

Funny how some people just can’t let go of things. You are so painfully behind-the-times!
I’ll continue to wonder about Janelle and how she’s doing in achieving her goals. Hope it all goes well for her for the rest of the summer, anyway. You see, she’s working as an intern for Joe Moore.

PATTERNS vs. POSITIVE CHANGE
I read through and began to highlight names with more than one contribution. Next, I “bolded” the names of obvious realtors, developers, unions and other contributors of the type Dan wrote about.
I began to see a pattern there: “You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” Presto! Change-O!!!
In other words, if you want to build, pick out a lot, contribute to Citizens for Joe Moore, whereupon a “positive change” (read as: $$ for Joe’s rental car and gas money and Dunkin Donuts for everyone) will be instituted and Joe Moore will approve the zoning change for you. Then you can disturb the neighbors for one or two years and bribe building inspectors along the way. So simple, so fast, so easy!
I wonder what this company wants Joe to do for them? ($3,000 is a healthy chunk–I thought the cap was $2,500!)
MLG Construction
2501 W Bryn Mawr Ste 101
$3,000.00
I tried googling MLG and found no website with this particular address. There is, though, in India, an MLG Construction which looks like it does quite a bit of business.
Look who else gave Joe money to make a positive change. His ol’ buddy, Chad Zuric, the deadbeat dad!
Zuric Development Inc
1741 W. Crystal Ave.
$2,500.00
And I wonder what Ms. Triem could possibly have needed from her alderman, don’t you? Think it may have been connected to the swift destruction of the North Shore School?
Triem, Swanette
1201 W. Chase
$500.00
$125.00
It’s curious, too, that Rich Aronson made his donation shortly before Moore’s public meeting regarding the zoning change Aronson needs to build the “glove factory” at 7313-15 N. Sheridan Rd. Patterns.
Aronson, Richard M.
1935 W. Farwell Ave.
$1,000.00
I sure hope this guy didn’t contribute $800 for nothing. He’s not in construction. Citizens for Joe Moore never spent a dime at his coffee house. Hmmm, if I had a suspicious thought, it would seem that in June, he came up with this extra $500 to Citizens for Joe Moore, as if the June 30th deadline had to be met. More patterns.
Javid, Arshad
1355 W. Lunt Av
$200.00
$300.00
$300.00
Then, as an example, there’s this developer. Why didn’t he just give $1,000 in the first place? Was he strapped for funds and said something like, “I’ll get the rest to you in two weeks”, or was he so satisfied with the “help” the alderman had given that he freely gave another $500 on April 23rd? Is this a donation or a pay-off for a favor? Yet more patterns.
Nikolic, Milos
821 Austin
$500.00
$500.00
And on it goes. Are all the contributions to Citizens for Joe Moore freely-given and above-board? Maybe so…and maybe not. If there’s “something rotten in the state of Denmark”, I’m certainly going to continue to look for the source of that slick, slimy stench.

IS CRIME REALLY DOWN, OR JUST GETTING YOU DOWN?

Some of you in Rogers Park may recognize this house at 1431 W. Fargo. Nice shot, isn’t it? Lots of security lighting. The owner is the 49th Ward’s alderman, Joe Moore. Oh, and no one appeared to be home that night.
If you’re not familiar with Joe Moore, he’s the guy who keeps saying “Crime is DOWN!” Perhaps he really doesn’t “live” at this address, but in an alternative reality created by himself.
These are the available statistics as of Sunday, August 17, 2008 from the GIS Team at the Chicago Police Dept. CLEARMAP website (www.gis.chicagopolice.org) for Mr. Moore’s neighborhood:

Fifty-three REPORTED crimes in a two week period! Within the half-mile radius of the alderman’s house! Most of that area to the northeast, east and southeast is lake. If crime is DOWN, then down from what, Joe? Seems to me with only 3 arrests made, that ARRESTS are DOWN! Just how many robberies, knife attacks and handguns does it take for you to understand? If it had been your house that was broken into and robbed, would you still be making the same cockamamie statement? How can you continue this way?
Oops, just had a flash here. Joe Moore will lower crime by driving out the criminals (and every other lower-income person) by consorting with real estate developers, approving paid-for zoning changes and filling Rogers Park with high-priced, shoddily-constructed condos that most people will not be able to afford. Gentrification will replace diversity, and everyone can return to their homeland. It worked for Lincoln Park, didn’t it?
Fargo is a nice street and was relatively quiet around 10 PM the night we photographed. Most of the homeowners and landlords in this neighborhood take pride in keeping up the buildings and the grounds. ONE crime committed here would be more than enough!
Anyone who believes Moore’s fantasy and continues to support him has their head in the sand with him. Do you think the cops on the beat believe him? Obviously, the real estate developers do, but that’s a story for another day.
