SHERIDAN AND TOUHY CITGO STATION
A Pakistani corporation runs the place. Have they been “made” to succumb to the Latin Kings? This is obviously LATIN KINGS graffiti. Want to help me out here a little, Commander Dave Sobczyk of the 24th District?
Courtesy: Still Photo by William R. Morton
This type of thing has occurred too many times in Rogers Park, and in the City of Chicago. Do the Pakistani gentlemen who own this CITGO station call the Mayor’s “Graffiti Busters”, so the side of the building can be spray-painted BABY KAKA BROWN? Or, will they have to “take care of it” themselves, in their SPARE time?
And, Commander Sobczyk, what are you planning to do about GANGS, sir, like the Latin Kings, Gangster Disciples, and whatever other SCUM roam the streets of the 24th District?

Do I, as a woman, feel “safe” on these streets of the 49th Ward that “Our Joe” has been protecting? Not at all, at all!
And where, by the way, IS our RESIDENT crime fighter, who “lives” just 3 and one half blocks away, and buys gasoline for his car at this Citgo at least every week or two? After all, Joe Moore, they ARE contributors to your (phony) campaign!

THE DEBATE: A TELLING TIME
Ald. Joe Moore: Were you watching? Were you listening? Did you hear any of the words spoken by Illinois State Senators today during their debate before the vote?
Your type of politicking is OVER, Ald., because many of these phrases can handily describe what you have been doing to the 49th Ward of the City of Chicago these many years.
Devious, crass, corrupt
I wish him well on his new Hollywood career
Pathetic
Abused his power
Jeopardizes our security
An unusually good liar
Disingenuous
Hypocrite
Beneath the dignity of the State of Illinois
I sit here in shame: Sen. Del Gato
I do not delight in my task here today: Sen. Cronin
Pathetic legacy–legal, personal and political
Unfit to govern
Violated state and federal law…repeatedly. It’s a lie for him to say he did not have the opportunity
It’s over
All the evidence was overwhelming
Blagojevich’s behavior was disgraceful
Greatest offense: effecutually paralyzed our state government
Hurt the economies of local communities, real people, and families
Treatment of people is irresponsible
Has not been truthful throughout his last six years
Deserves to be impeached
Imprudent
We are on notice: Sen. Nolan
No one is above the law
We must right our ship: Sen. John Jones
Taking out one bad apple; there’s more here
Involved in unconscionable acts
We’ve been duped, again
Blagojevich is not an ethical leader
Abused the taxpayers
He has broken his promise
Tainted moral character of our governor
Free at last, free at last, free at last: Sen. Sandoval
Remarks were insulting to law-abiding citizens
Utter contempt and disregard for the law
Our state government must enter rehab
Appearance today too little, too late
We have this thing, impeachment, and it is bleepin’ golden
Willful disregard for the law and the truth
Tired of not being able to trust our elected officials
How many of these phrases could be applied, would be applied to YOU? Quite a few, I say!
That’s right, Joe: We are tired of NOT BEING ABLE TO TRUST our elected officials!
Who Popped Mr.Popper’s Penguin???
It’s bad enough that we have an Alder-Joker, but holy Sheridan Ave Batman we now have a penguin, and it belongs to a Mr. Popper. Well, actually it was a story board for a children’s play, and somebody decided to ditch it on one of the condo properties along Sheridan road in East Rogers Park. I guess they might not be teaching recycling effectively in our public schools, and I guess some Rogers Park kids could give a damn about recycling or penguins as this ditched display might indicate. Here is some info on the mysterious Mr. Popper and his penguin! Wack Wack!

Meet Alderman Moe Joe
Hello Kiddies! It’s me Aldeman Moe Joe of the furty nineth ward! Ya say ya have an Alderman of ds ferty ninth werd do ya? Well, I am is evil half which comes out of os boodie when he be goin beady bye! You see, eyes wurkin all day, and the only times I get to come out when dat bastich is fallin sleep. He bee working me too hard durin the day, and now I come out to party!
Hello, I AM backin time at the Adelphi. It wAS ME FAVORITE place to haunt and ye old man Moore be have gone knockin it down. He didn’t eevn listen to his good half when he be makin dis decision. Even me is bad half told him that he’d be makin a mistake.
The Adelphi could have been bring in da dough in Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. Instead attrackin hhodlums , we could have had a fine towmne. Well, what does an evil moe joe care about fine townes? I kint be eval all da time, and an it wuld be nice to have a town that wasnt zo fcking like a gheto. No Matta how much I tell that smoe, Ropa is shouldn’t be a gehtto\. I tell him to send them to Lakeview, Lincoln Park or wicker park! But that bung hole is so damn stuck on diversity, that he thinks that gangh graffiti and killing is all a part of it.
Well, I am now at the Adelphi of the past enjoying a good show. And you are probably walking by the Adelphi right now an seein a graffiit and junky hole in the ground. Well, don’t be blamin me, I mights be evil, but I know a stupid mistake when I sees one. ABA gnight!
Pride Of The 49th Ward!
A quote from Joe Moore’s website “He is a full-time alderman who puts in long hours to ensure he and his staff provide quality service and advocacy for all the residents, businesses and other stake-holders in the 49th Ward. A fighter for peace and justice, Joe works hard to maintain a diverse and vibrant community where everyone has a voice in decisions that affect them.”
Peace and Justice! Let’s not forget the recent stabbings that occurred on his block. Crime is on the rise, and you are working full time and you can’t stop it? My Grandfather was an Alderman, and back in his time, he had a regular job and was still able to serve the citizens of his town. Are you too good to work along side the common man! Of course why would you, when you have a recession proof job, that pays you $100 grand a year, plus whatever you get in donations. Also, I’d like to add that Joe Moore’s inability to save a Rogers Park Icon “The Adelphi Theater” in spite of a grass roots organization of Roger Park , who wanted to preserve this Rogers Park gem and offered to buy it. Instead, Joe Moore catered to the Greedy Land Developers, and now what is left is this dangerous gang playground, graffiti and junk filled pit where this fine Landmark “The Adelphi” used to exist. So you don’t listen and serve all the citizens of Rogers Park. See citizen video here,

Another perspective of Village North Theatre Closing
“With the economy tanking and alderman Joe Moore’s continuing neglect of his ward’s business climate, it’s surprising the place lasted as long as it did. A company says it has plans to renovate and reopen, but I’m not holding my breath. Between Tivo, NetFlix, and Turner Movie Classics, I’m not lacking in access to the great films of the past. Still, it was nice having a place like Village North in the neighborhood”. – Read more at: Village North Theater Closed – G.L.I. Press

Rogers Park woman dies in fire at 6830 N. Sheridan Road
An East Rogers Park woman was killed overnight after a fire broke out in her apartment. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified her as Patricia Allen, and said she was in her 50s.Firefighters responded to the four-story apartment building at 6830 N. Sheridan at 12:30 a.m. The fire chief said the fire was limited to a single apartment on the second floor, where Allen’s body was found.
“There was very little fire at all. Our guys did a good job, did the best they could, but she was already dead,” Chicago Fire Chief James Thompson said at the scene. “We’re still investigating the cause, but we did find smoking materials around where she was, and that may have something to do with it,” he said.

Never "Get Over It"
jackiejaeger:
Here here, Mr. Morton. I can’t get over it either
BillMortonRogersPark:
jackiejaeger, I do not believe that we should get over it.
The demolition of the Adelphi Theater was not only a tragedy that destroyed culture, history and architectural beauty in Rogers Park.
Alderman Joe Moore’s blind support of the demolition shows his lack of screening and research of developers who are altering our community. This particular developer has a long history of foreclosures and unfinished projects.
These misinformed decisions have created a pattern of unsecure demolition sites throughout our neighborhood.
Developer donations of thousands of dollars to the Citizens for Joe Moore organization only fuels this real issue.
Getting over it allows career politicians like Joe Moore to keep getting re-elected year after year. He banks on the general public being unconcerned or complacent about earlier issues by election day, which allows this behavior to continue for an extended four years.

HEY, JOE! ARE YOU READING THIS?
Chicago’s Crime Statistics were released yesterday, and they’re not very pretty, Joe. You can blather all you want about how YOU are fighting crime, and how YOU decreased crime, but–you’re simply lying again to the residents of the 49th Ward!
Superintendent Jody Weis says so!
And Joe, you have not even acknowledged that a major crime–a murder–took place not 200 feet from your office door the night of December 19, 2008. Whatsamattah, Joe, can’t face the facts, the TRUTH?
Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis
Three articles this morning–one in the Sun-Times and two from Chicago Public Radio–speak of the rise in crime this past year in Chicago.
From the Sun-Times:
Crime up, arrests down 2008 STATISTICS
Violent incidents increased, but figures show cops couldn’t keep up
Chicago homicides, shootings and other violent crime are up. Arrests, gun recoveries and other indicators of police activity are down.
On Friday, Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis officially closed the book on 2008, a year that one alderman said left little to celebrate.
“He’s made mistakes. This is the residual effect of that. He’s got good intentions. But it’s hard to see anything positive about his reign,” said Police Committee Chairman Isaac Carothers (29th).
“When you change all the commanders at once — and don’t give yourself a chance to learn from experienced people — that gives a jolt to the system. Police officers have told me they don’t feel the enthusiasm they once had. They’re doing their jobs. But nothing beyond that. They don’t have the confidence that he’s supporting them.”
Weis said Friday he believes he has a dedicated, hardworking force and that he has seen a shift recently.

Yesterday, Chicago Public Radio published this:
http://www.chicagopublicradio.org/Content.aspx?audioID=31535
Official 2008 Crime Numbers in
Produced by Rob Wildeboer on Friday, January 16, 2009
The murder rate was up fifteen percent last year according to crime statistics released today by the Chicago Police Department. There were a total of 510 murders last year compared to 445 in 2007.
But police point out that both those numbers are drastically lower than the early nineties when the rate hovered around 9 hundred killings per year. Superintendent Jody Weis says 72 percent of murder victims had prior records.
WEIS: It is what it is. You have people who are victims today, they’re being shot at. Tomorrow they turn into offenders. Perhaps they’re retaliating against someone trying to shoot them you know a few days earlier so it just goes on. It’s a circle. We have to put down the guns. It’s very simple, there’s too many guns on the streets of Chicago.
Weis says he’d like to see laws that would make it impossible for someone with a record, who’s caught with a loaded weapon to receive anything less than prison time.
And this morning, published this:
http://www.chicagopublicradio.org/Content.aspx?audioID=31536
Weis: No Probation for Gang Member Caught With Guns
Produced by Rob Wildeboer on Saturday, January 17, 2009
Chicago’s Superintendent of Police says guns are just too easy to get. He says that’s part of the reason the homicide rate was up 15 percent last year. Police released their official crime statistics yesterday. Jody Weis says the city has had a handgun ban since 1982 but people are still walking around with weapons. He thinks greater deterrence is required.
WEIS: There should be some crimes that are just, you’re not going to get probation. If you’re a member of a gang, you have a criminal history and you’re walking down the street with a loaded weapon and we should discover that, I think those individuals should not get probation, I think they should go to jail.
Weis says he’d like to work with the mayor and the Cook County State’s Attorney to come up with legislation that would make that a reality. There were 510 murders in Chicago last year compared to 445 in 2007.
Police stress that that is much lower than the early nineties when the number hovered around 900 killings per year.

So, Joe, are you going to continue your spew of “CRIME IS DOWN”? Is that the “progressive” way to look–with BLINDERS? Don’t your highly-overpaid office staff EVER look at the number of crimes committed in the 49th Ward? Or are they too busy with their Dunkin Donuts and free coffee?

Pub Drunk comes across to Joe Moore’s Office parking lot to Hassle Neighborhood Watch Volunteer!
I kid you not fine citizens of East Rogers Park, the pictures that you see before you are not of the alley, but of Alderman Joe Moore’s Parking lot. What’s with the beer can and other rubbish when there are plenty of garbage cans clustered on the parking lot’s edge? Good job on the walkways, but citizens also cross the parking lot which is encrusted with compacted snow, and is quite slippery I might add. In fact while I was taking these pictures a drunk from the pub across the street, hassled me for being such a concerned citizen and almost slipped in the snow that is in your parking lot. Being trained in hostile situations, trouble was avoided, so there were no problems and I sent him directly back to the pub from which he came. It is sad to see garbage around the city especially when we the concerned citizens of East and West Rogers Park prioritize the cleanliness of our neighborhood. And lastly, it is not only good to keep our walkways free of snow debris as you have demonstrated, but remember your parking lot as well.
Reporting from the site of the former Freaky NU NU memorial shrine, aka the Jarvis redline stop on block Moore, this is the Chicago Shadow bidding you a good morrow!
So long Village North Theatre
“The Village North Theatre was an asset to the community and provided cinema, culture and commerce to a part of Sheridan Road that really needed it,” says Bill Morton, 31. “It was a part of our lives for a very long time, and the students, neighbors and Rogers Park community will miss it dearly.”

Finally, some warming centers
Thank you Chicago Department of Human Services, Chicago Public Libraries and Chicago Park District for providing these warming locations. Thank you LORRAINE SWANSON for the heads up.
The Chicago Department of Human Services has opened its North Side warming center at 4740 N. Sheridan for people who need refuge from the extreme cold weather. The center, which you can reach at 312-744-2580, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For transportation to the center, call 311.
Also open to anyone needing a warm place to spend the day are the following libraries and park district buildings:
Sulzer branch, 4455 N. Lincoln
Uptown branch, 929 W. Buena
Edgewater branch, 1210 W. Elmdale
Rogers Park branch, 6907 N. Clark
Margate Field House, 4921 N. Marine
Loyola Park, 1230 W. Greenleaf
Warren Park, 6601 N. Western
Willye B. White Park (formerly Gale School Park), 7631 N. Ashland
The city is asking residents to also call 311 if they spot a homeless person outside during the dangerous cold and to check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
If you are renting and experiencing a cold or unheated apartment, call the Chicago Department of Buildings at 311. The buildings department will send out an inspector for a heat inspection; landlords are subject to fines.
The city requires landlords to adequately maintain the heat in their rental buildings. From Sept. 15 to June 1, building owners are required to provide the following temperatures for their tenants: 68 degrees from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and 66 degrees from 10:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.
A National Weather Service wind chill warning remains in effect until noon Friday. Mercury readings as of 10 a.m. Friday morning along the city’s far north lakefront were -8 degrees, with a -20 wind chill reading.
…IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES…
Unfortunately, I have nothing to indicate the outdoor temperature except the Sun-Times, which as of a few minutes ago, showed it is -17 and describes the weather as “unspeakable“!
Navy Pier Courtesy: Chicago Tribune
Video clips on various TV stations have shown reporters in several “warming stations” around the city. They urge people to come there and get warm. I do not understand.
Why would someone leave their home and go outdoors to travel even a mile or two, waiting for a bus or train, in this weather?
And da Mare simply says, in effect, that the homeless cannot be forced into a shelter.
None of this makes any sense to me.
Why should one have to go outdoors to find a warming place–because their cheap landlords are breaking the law, in the Municipal Code of Chicago, that a 68 degree temperature must be maintained.
*********
The above was my comment to a previous post entitled “-5″. Today is worse, and I have two electric heaters running in my open living area. The bathroom in the back of my apartment has heat, for one of the few times this winter.
The manager of my building is very quick to point out that it is the tenants’ fault for many of the problems in this building. He is, simply, INEPT. The owners have also made large contributions to “Citizens for Joe Moore”, perhaps to stave off fines for building code violations (?).
The Chicago Tribune this morning states in a blurb that “Thousands are without heat“. How can this be? Because of corrupt building inspectors, who see the violation, especially with heating plants, and turn the other way while taking a chunk of money on the side (commonly known as a BRIBE).
Residents of Chicago will not be served, properly, by their elected officials unless there is a massive clean-up of CORRUPTION! If your landlord is consistently not supplying the proper, designated amount of heat to maintain 68 degrees, CALL 311.
DO IT, JUST DO IT! NOW!
- 5
It is now -5 degrees.
High temperature for today may reach 0 degrees.
Low temperature for today may reach -12 degrees.
Where are the heated buses for the homeless people living in Rogers Park?
